UEFA admits it was surprised by attempt to expand World Cup to 64 teams, slams it as a bad idea
Previously, the International Football Federation (FIFA) held a general meeting and a representative from Uruguay proposed the idea of increasing the number of teams to 64 in 2030 to celebrate the tournament’s 100th anniversary, with Aleksander Ceferin, President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), also attending the meeting. Recently, Aleksander Ceferin gave an interview to the media expressing his opinion on the matter, saying:
“I think it’s a bad idea.”
“It’s not a good idea for the World Cup finals, but also for the continental qualifiers. เล่น UFABET ผ่านมือถือ สะดวกทุกที่ ทุกเวลา I personally don’t support this plan.”

“I don’t know where this idea came from. It’s strange that we didn’t know anything before the proposal came up at the meeting,” Ceferin said. However, Ceferin has insisted he will not oppose a new 32-team Club World Cup. Which is set to take place in the middle of this year, insisting: “It’s something that has to happen.”
For the World Cup, since 1998, the tournament has been play with 32 teams. And is set to increase to 48 teams for the next tournament in 2026. Which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
